Jenna's House of Idiosyncrasies Version 10.0 [Focus.]

First Day of School

August 19, 2002 - 9:59pm

Current Music: Veblen - Moonlit Rose

So I actually woke up the first time my alarm went off today.

Just got up, walked across the room and shut it off. Thought about laying back down but felt strangely...rested.

The start of a good day.

That was 9:00. My first class wasn't until 11:15. I took a shower and checked my e-mail and read some Ben Brown and got dressed and walked casually down the street to my Marine Enviroment class.

And who's in my class but Jesse, my old high school pal. We both stand there looking at the “Physics 1010” on the board, wondering together if we are in the right place, until someone who must be our instructor comes in and switches it.

We breathe a collective sigh of relief and sit down. The 3 instructors then proceed to use the entire class period going over the syllabus. Fun fun.

However, I have a study partner! Yay!

I went to the bookstore afterwards and they didn't have anything but the Marine Enviroment book used so I bought that and my lab fee card and got out and saw Melissa on the plaza! Yey! And then I went downtown and bought my Jump ticket for Thursday, and then went and ate lunch without event.

It gets better, I promise.

Next was History of Rock Music. Oh my god. I love this class.

When I walked in, people were standing near the entrance confirming for each other that this is, in fact, History of Rock and Roll, despite it's location in the Forest Resources building.

I would've thought that the rock blasting over the speakers would be a dead give away.

I told you it was cool.

I try to guess what's playing, maybe the Yardbirds? I'm sure I'm completely off but it's cool as hell anyway. Then Magic Carpet Ride comes over the speakers.

I have never been to any class where Steppenwolf was part of the curriculum, where a guitar sits up front next to the instructor, who wears jeans and a T-shirt and his hair long, who also wrote the book for this course.

Damn, let's go. I learned about blues today! And it was awesome!

Statistics had a hard time living up to that, but even that class worked out better than I imagined. My teacher is young and insists on being called Mike, never Mr. anything. He seemed kinda scatter-brained but it made for a very entertaining class nonetheless. The course material itself is not so great but at least it will be hard to zone out.

Then home, where I had this message waiting on my computer:

Sabrina says:
    HEY JENNA!
Sabrina says:
guess what i had the west nile virus this weekend and today! ahhh
Sabrina says:
    i'm better now don't worry

Then dinner with my super-cool new roommate Dayana, then home and writing this.

Since I'm so impassioned about school right now maybe I should go get some work done, eh?
